How I judge whether mobile controls actually work
Controls make or break a phone game more than graphics ever will. Over the years I've built a rough mental checklist I run before I trust a game enough to recommend it.
First, latency. I tap and watch how fast the game responds. Any noticeable delay in an arcade or racing game is a dealbreaker, full stop.
Second, thumb reach. Can I hit every important input without shifting my grip? Games that scatter buttons into corners fight against how we actually hold phones.
Third, forgiveness. Good touch controls assume you'll be slightly imprecise and account for it, especially on a bumpy commute. Casinacho Win passed this easily — its taps register cleanly even when I'm rushing.
None of this is scientific, but running through it quickly tells me whether a game respects the device it's running on.
